Suzuki Marine DF90 Mitsubishi Melco ECU remap for an Outboard boat engine

When we were asked if we could prepare a remap for a Suzuki Marine DF90 Outboard engine we thought it would be a very interesting project. The ECU in question was 90J80 with a MH7203 micro processor, ECU part number 33920, SW variant HS2060.

The customer wanted to convert the engine to the 115 BHP variant, the only difference was the camshaft, all other parts of the engine were the same.

The mapping inside a outboard boat ECU is actually relatively simple, however finding a tool to connect to the ECU was not so simple because the ECU type was not common.

After some work alongside the dev team at Dimsport we had a working driver and were able to read/write the ECU.

Using software from a DF115 engine we could see which maps needed to be changed to remap the Suzuki DF90 engine to 115 BHP. We changed the injection timing maps, and the engine load maps which effectively alter how much the throttle flap can open and how much air is allowed into the engine.

Lambda control will the adjust the fuelling mixture to match the air mass in the engine. We also added in a little extra power rather than just 115 BHP so this one would have came out at roughly 120 BHP after our tuning.

Many Outboard engines for boats have the same engine hardware and power is only changed through an ECU remap, this allows the manufacturers to make less parts and keep costs down. Usually the only difference is the propeller, so when tuning you can upgrade the prop to that from the more power engine.

We can also offer remaps for the Yamaha F50 outboard engine, here power will go from 50 BHP to a whopping 70 BHP with only a simple software procedure. If you have multiple outboard engines you will require a remap on each ECU.

We offer this service via a postal remap service based in the Netherlands. Usually we post using DHL express so we can receive your ECU within 2 days from most parts of the world.
